Merging Traditional Western Medicine with Traditional Chinese Medicine Many often ask which is best? Modern Western Medicine or Traditional Chinese Medicine. The answer is neither. The best choice is a combination of the two. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses. In general, Western Medicine is better at acute conditions (Wounds, broken bones, ruptured apendexes) while  Chinese medicine is better at cronic conditions (pain management, allergies, body maintenence, stress relief) but there can be a lot of cross over in each direction. To determine which treatment is best for you and your condition, you need Doctors who, while specialized in one area, are knowledgable about both. Only then can you be sure of getting the right teatment for whatever conditions you may have.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an alternative medicine methodology originating in ancient China that treats patients by adjusting the flow of energy, or qi, through channels in our bodies known as meridians. At MPET Medical Group, we perform Traditional Chinese Medical practices sharing common theoretical concepts, including various forms of Acupuncture, Cupping, Moxibustion, Herbal treatments and Manipulation Treatment.

Acupuncture treats patients with thin needles that are inserted into acupuncture points through the skin. These acupuncture points lay along the meridians. The needles stimulate these points in the body and can correct imbalances in the flow of qi (energy) through the meridians. This results in a strengthening of our bodies defense system and treats numerous diseases and disorders.

For a list of diseases and disorders that the World Health Organization has reviewed and concluded that acupuncture has been proved—through controlled trials—to be an effective treatment, please see http://apps.who.int/medicinedocs/pdf/s4926e/s4926e.pdf section 3.

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medical treatment, in which a local suction is created on the skin; this mobilizes blood flow and promotes healing. Suction is created using heat (fire) or mechanical devices (hand or electrical pumps).

Moxibustion burns a herb called moxa to warm regions and acupuncture points with the intention of stimulating circulation through the points and inducing a smoother flow of blood and qi.

Chinese Herbs have been used for centuries. Among the earliest literature are lists of prescriptions for specific ailments, found in the Mawangdui tombs which were sealed in 168 B.C. The first traditionally recognized herbalist is Shennong, who is said to have lived around 2800 B.C.

MPET Medical Group prescribes and stocks a large selection of natural Chinese herbs and herbal supplements. (No, we do not stock, carry or use any marijuana or any recreational drugs. Please don't even ask.)

Chinese medical philosophy focuses more on how to strengthen our bodies so they can better fight diseases and disorders. It has focused on what effects the various stimuli have on our bodies. These responses have been evaluated and categorized over thousands of years. In addition, the side effects are also well known and categorized. What Chinese medicine lacks is a detailed understanding of exactly how these results are created. Recently, the scientific methods have been used to analyze how these treatments work in the body. Modern forms of herb products (pill or powder) are available for easy use.
